Chinese Whispers, Chinoiserie in Britain 1650-1930 - at the Brighton Museum and the Royal Pavilion from 3 May to 2 November 2008. See http://www.brighton.virtualmuseum.info/exhibitions/chinesewhispers.asp for information on the exhibition and associated events. OATG member, Kay Staniland visited the exhibition and says: "Although very few textiles were included (and the theme is about the influence of imported Chinese goods on English dec. arts), I feel that this wonderful gathering of chinoiserie artefacts would interest many members of OATG. There are outstanding examples of lacquered furniture, silver, ceramics, prints, wallpaper - and a fascinating woman's bodice with chinoiserie embroidery dated to the late 17th c." |
